Joey has been teaching everyone from beginners at festivals to advanced players in masters classes for over fourteen years. In that time he has tutored in twenty American states and more than five countries across the globe.
He has been on staff at every piping festival in North America and has lectured and performed at centers of learning such as; UCLA, Evergreen College, Salem State, Emerson College, Berkeley, MIT, Harvard, and Boston College.
Joey's teaching style is highly sought after for his in-depth analysis of piping fundamentals as well as his extensive studies in uilleann pipe styles and repertoire. He has lectured on Early American Uilleann Piping as well as The Regulators, their history and function.

The Massachusetts Cultural Council has awarded Joey two Traditional Arts Apprenticeships (2015 & 2022/2023) as well as this year receiving a Artist Fellowship (2020) being recognized as a proponent of the tradtional art of uilleann piping in New England as well as the United States.
